Empath: When Your Sensitivity is a Super Power

Have you ever been told you are an Empath? Did this label help you…or box you in? Or a little of both?

Empaths are basically sensitive people.

  • Sensitive to their own emotions and energies.
  • Sensitive to OTHER people’s emotions and energies.
  • They can get their feelings hurt easily because they take everything personally.
  • They tend to overthink and over-analyze. Everything.
  • They tend to make mountains out of mole hills.
  • They can worry and obsess over small details.
  • They can be in constant fear of someone being mad at them.
  • They can be in constant fear of “catching” someone else’s bad mojo.
  • They can isolate themselves out of fear of being around other people and not being able to adequately “protect” themselves.

Does any of this sound like you?

This was how I lived my life…for decades. I would walk on eggshells around certain people. I learned from energy healers to put an “energetic boundary" or shield around me and my house to protect myself from other people’s “bad” energy.

I turned into a hot mess. I became more and more sensitive to more and more things – food, chemicals, perfumes, medications, etc.

But here’s the deal. The label helped me explain things at first. It helped me validate what I had been feeling. And then it left me feeling more like a victim…like I didn’t have any power or control. I felt weak and powerless.

Then it dawned on me that I could use my sensitivity to my advantage. The better I got at cleaning up my mindset, the more powerful and in control I felt. I finally believed in myself.

My sensitivity gives me INSTANT feedback. You see, if you aren’t aware of your thoughts, your emotions and life experiences will give you clues about what you are thinking. But if you aren’t very sensitive, it might take a few days or even weeks of negative emotions & negative life experiences before you actually realize what’s really going on.

For sensitive people, we know immediately when we are even a little bit “off” in our thoughts. This gives us an edge. We can instantly change direction or shift into thinking about something more pleasing. We can turn our health and lives around quickly.

So, if you have been labeled an “Empath,” I want you to consider these points:

  • Make the decision to view your sensitivity as your super power.
  • Make the decision to start softening and letting go of any belief that you need to protect yourself from other people’s energies. Drop the energetic boundaries...these actually block you from receiving your own answers & guidance.
  • Make the decision to stop beating yourself up for being sensitive.
  • Make the decision to embrace this gift of heightened awareness.
